The clip looked kinda bad here too. Go fetch Microsoft Windows Media Encoder 9. It's free and pretty decent, and is what I used to encode all my videos, which I assume have played well for everyone. Also, avoid recompressing from highly lossy codecs, like Divx. Capture your video as DV, and then encode that to WMV. PM me for specific video advice or post in my BBS as I happen to do video editing work as a hobby wink

I have used winavi with great sucess (it is buyware, but that doesn't mean it can't be got for free). A video encoded at 256kb/s (so about 1.2MB/minute) looks pretty good when played fullscreen. And the best part is that the files can be played as you download them wink

Well, last I checked Microsoft's website in order to download that you had to run microsofts authenticy check. Unless there is a different one you can download without requiring an authenticy check?

I have never been a wmv fan but it does have its advantage with compatibility (except for linux, maybe). I would have tried that but the software with my converter doesnt provide for adjustable compression with wmv and is limited to QVGA. Sucks. I typically use mpg4 or divx also because my dvd player will play both those formats without having to convert it again to DV. DIVX looks great with my software but when playing back the file on my pc the frame rate is messed up. And MP4 apperently has issues on some machines as indicated on this thread. I am going to be getting in touch with plextor since obviously there are some issues with their software - I mean the big 3 formats all have issues with the software. Thats rediculous IMO.

... I will look into that winavi, always looking to try more software anyway. Anyone use any type of video converters for Linux?

Anyhow, I apologize - I typically check all my videos before I post em but the 2 machines I viewed it on looked good. I will now check the vids on my work machine also, atleast till I get this problem figured out.

I can upload some stills, but they would be frames out of a 640x480 clip so the quality wont be super, and the stills arent very impressive compared to the movie clip.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.

Ok, I have tried some new software today. Although its not the greatest (Ulead Video Studio) it seems to work atleast. I made several different formats including WMV and MPEG4. The WMV one is a bit chopy when there is alot of motion, the mpeg4 isnt as chopy but also 3 times the filesize. So if anyone is interested you can download them here:
http://tristan.homelinux.net/ringlauncher/EMP_3A.wmv WMV 4.7MB
http://tristan.homelinux.net/ringlauncher/EMP_3A.avi MPEG-4 15.4MB

Also my webpage detailing the project is: http://tristan.homelinux.net/ringlauncher/

Please let me know if there are any problems with the above videos (aside from minor choppiness). Thanks!

Yeah, I noticed that with some of FastMHz's clips (I'll have to give you credit on that one since I wouldnt have thought of slowing it down myself) . Normal speed its like a big pop but slow it down kaaaabooooooom lol.
