I have both a Windows Vista and 7 laptops and I need a movie editing program that's better than WMM because it's way to basic. you can only add 1 comment per video clip and there is not an option for speeding up video clips, both options that i need right now. I need it to be free but I don't mind if it's a trial version as long as the trial doesn't display a message in the final video. EX: "This is a trial version"

Also, i don't need it to be super complicated, I just need something that allows me to trim, split, add comments in the clip, speed up the clip, and add music. It would also be nice if it recognized .MOV files and allowed me to freeze certain clips for several seconds when I wanted it to

EDIT: Never mind, I'm getting a mac

The newer MM lets you speed things up. But I think you can get a trial version of Adobe After Effects. It looks pretty complicated, but its pretty easy actually. Also there is a lot of youtube tutorials and lots of special effects. It can save in a lot of fiels. If you are loaded, buy it. Its not as expensive as photoshop, but it will still run you a few hundered!

Even the old version of WMM let you speed things up, it's listed under Effects. I know because once I got out of high school and had no access to their digital video lab with Adobe Premiere and after effect I used WMM to edit my High Speed Camera footage.

As for a replacement, I am uncertain but would be interested myself in finding a good one.

Advanced builds of VideoLAN's Movie Creator
supporting Debian/Ubuntu, MacOS, and Windows:

One may need to convert the Windows installer .bin to .exe to fix a bug in download names.
