Hey,
The ESR is not going to be a problem, if it's only 0.015 Ohms. What the problem will be is the capacitance. The time it takes for your capacitor to discharge into the coil is roughly proportional to L*C (inductance times capacitance). With a huge C, your current pulse is going to be super long, meaning your coil's timing will be way off. The current pulse won't be over when the projectile reaches the center of the coil- meaning the coil will suck the projectile back, resulting in super low efficiency or nothing.

I was reading about particle accelerators and thought a voltage multiplier (Marx gen., Cockcroft-Walton, or Dickson pump) might improve the acceleration and/or efficiency for other types of magnetic accelerators...
