While we are debating Nerdery, let's not forget Battletech's Gauss Rifle, which was basically a huge multi-stage coilgun!

Anything that propels objects forward can be called a gun.

Internet cookie for anyone who can tell me what kind of gun this is:

EDIT: I suppose we should stay remotely on topic here. Earth3, larger capacitors can be salvaged from monitors and computer PSUs. If you have some cash you can buy electrolytic capacitors on ebay in bulk, or just buy one big one. Look for "inverter" or "computer" grade caps, these are the better ones. The current rating on an SCR is their average current. What you need to look at is peak current, which is usually called "Peak one-cycle surge", "ITSM" or something similar. I used a 50RIA120 in my first real coil gun, you can get them for 12 bucks on ebay.

It looks more like a vidicon electron gun and not a CRT.

Using the words 'Lethal' and 'Gun' together gives a bad impression !

Look around this forum for sources of materials; it's a well covered topic.

Why not say, you want it to break though "state inanimate object" not bodies cause some people don't like that stuff :P

I've always used relays in my coilguns but they have all been single stage, I did once try to make a multi stage gun but the relay was never fast enough to even discharge the bank when the projectile passed... I never got to go any further because like you I only scavenge my parts and I've never come across any SCR's...
