The only railgun I made was terrible, just made of some aluminum stock, and the injector was me pushing a ball of tin foil down the rails with a q-tip. I don't know how to correctly wire a cap bank from flash cameras. I wired the bank in parallel but it always seems to give me less power than one cap. Does anyone know how I can construct a railgun that can shoot through paper at about 1 meter away? Preferably in 2 weeks or so.

"it always seems to give me less power than one cap"

I've had this happen before, often it's one bad capacitor in there spoiling the whole party. Test them all and find the busted one, then remove it.

Or if he's putting them all in parallel won't that lower teh max voltage available?

Maybe the pulse-time is not high enough.
ESR decreases significantly when putting several caps in parallel.

Btw: Voltage stays the same and capacity adds up.
