sub-categories or topics for better organization

Hi gang. I was a member of this site years ago, just recently decided to drop in again and see what was new, and find out whether any folks here are doing things similar to some of the projects I'm working on. But that's just by way of introduction, it's not the topic of this post.

I looked through the suggestions posts and didn't find anything that covered this. The post on "Additonal Forum Categories" by jasonr in 2006 comes closest, but is not what I had in mind, which is this:

I'd like to see the "Electromagnetic Projectile Accelerators" topic organized into three sub-topics, covering the three main technologies used for EMLs:

* railguns
* coilguns
* electrothermal guns

There are over 4000 threads in that forum, and if someone is working on a railgun, they probably don't want to wade through a bunch of posts about coilguns or ETGs, since just about the entire system and all of the design constraints and decisions will be different for each of the three technologies.

Is hierarchical organization of topics even possible with this site's framework? Is adding a sub-topic difficult?

Thanks in advance for considering or discussing it, at least.
