Awesome picture. It looks like you used a length of thin wire, split in the middle and tied together with non-conductive wire. How you got the sparks to spread I don't know.

Correct. I used 2 or 3 feet of heavy nylon fishing line between copper wires connecting the toroid to the basketball hoop. Exposure was 5 seconds. The sparks were fairly heavy power arcs and would tend to rise. I was surprised when I saw the photo which was a quick last one and rather late at night. It does open up a lot of other possibilities photographically though.
