Audio Modulated VTTC

Good day coilers smile

I wanted to audio modulate my vttc but I didn't like the original way it was done.
So I came up with a new circuit I think.

Basicly the coil is running CW from 2 mots full wave rectified.
I have put a IGBT between the cathode of the tube and the ground.
This IGBT is switching a PWM signal with a frequency of about 80 Khz. This signal is modulated with audio. The coils resonant frequency is about 240 kHz so the PWM frequency ain't to close.

I will draw a schematic of it if people are interested.

Next will be a vttc running at 1.5 MHz and a modulation frequency of 200 kHz. Hope this will improve the sound quality even more.

Kinda looked like the wire loop was head banging to the music.

neat.

And look out for that ozone - it can be quite toxic in high concentrations.

Well done!

If you have a schematic, that would be nice. I am interested to see how your circuit works..

Cheers!

Thanks for the replies. I will write the schematic tommorow and post it here smile
Today I transfered it from bread board stage to pcb. Now busy building everything into the base of the coil.

I hope I can find enough wire to wind another seconday so I can change the frequency from 240 kHz to 1.5 MHz.
This wil hopefully increase sound quality even more.

"It smells like..... victory."
If you haven't grown too attached to that secondary you could just cut it down and try a higher frequency.

I don't think i`m going to cut the secondary down. This won't raise the frequency enough I think.
Does anybody now around wich frequency the spark becomes silent ?

I haven't drawn the schematic yet because i`m adjusting some minor things so it can be adjusted to suit more coils.
I think I will have it done this weekend.

I had a small sstc running at 1.4 Mhz and that was totally silent and my 300Khz sstc had a little hiss. Nice job on the coil, what's the volume like.

Hi jorrit

If you hear buzz your filtering is much more likely problem.
I imagine you need lots of capacitance to get smoothy DC at this voltage. How much are you using?

It's pretty loud. When my friend says that the breakout loop is turning (dutch) i say: true dolby surround but you can hardly hear me. You can hear him pretty good because he has the camera tongue

I`m looking for some materials to construct a coil with a Fres over 1 MHz. I want it to have thick wire because this coil is heating up at full power CW. I also want it to have about the same size as this coil. So I hope I have the wire and materials I need tongue

Edit:
Well it's more like a hiss. You can hear it humming a bit but not very loud. I had a 166 uF 7.5 KV capicator but I gave it to a fellow coiler who had more power available as me so he could make better use of it. Now i'm using 4 mot caps parral so it's only 4 uF. I`m looking for some new caps for some more smoothing capacity.

Here is the schematic.

It ain't finished yet but I didn't have much time today to draw it.
But I think most of the people here will understand it.

I explained it a little bit in the schematic. I will improve this when I got some more time.

Maybe you should use a faraday cage, I found myself broadcasting on the AM band @ 261 Khz with my audiomodulated sstc.
