I just finished my first secondary coil!

So I just completed my first secondary coil. It has 970 turns of 28awg wire and is wound on an abs form.

My original plan was to use it with a traditional vttc. I think first though that I might try a base fed design, such as from this video

I do have a question. In the video, it is suggested that both coils be identical. How critical is this? What effect would there be if one had quite a few less turns than the other?

Thank you!

Your picture is HUGE, but that's a nice coil. Good job. I can't answer your question, but as someone who just wound their first secondary I wanted to cheer you on. Winding my coil was an experience. I quickly found that once it's wound, the more you mess with it the more you'll mess it up (pre-varnish). I think next time I'll buy a $45 secondary from that guy on eBay who makes them to order. That said, I think every coiler should know how to wind a secondary. By hand for extra credit.

Your secondary coil looks good

... unless you've only shown the 'pretty' side :)

The topload looks nice, but I suspect that you will get sparks/arcs/corona from unexpected places.
