Does the human brain produce AC or DC magnetic fields?

Yes: Link2

Google "atomic magnetometer", "SQUID" etc.

Interestingly the base "physics package" of CSACs is being used without some add-on parts as a neural magnetic field scanner.
I looked into this a while back and a lot of work is also being done with HTSCs cooled using lasers and MEMS based cryocoolers.

My roomate was involved using nitrogen vacancy centers in diamond to probe the magnetic field directly in a living (worm's) brain Link2 The only part of her work that I understand was the business with the lasers, but it might point you down the right path.

Thanks for links.

I did look into recycling "waste" CSAC cores as these can be used as magnetometers if enough could be located.
The failure mode is low emission on the lamp as with conventional Rb AC modules so in theory by removing extraneous components a magnetometer could be constructed for about $3000 assuming that the manufacturers were willing to sell me a few for "tinkering" smile

Or alternatively an SDR, some optics and a fluorescent tube starter pre-selected for 1.42 MHz resonance in glow mode might work?
