Laser Custom Build Project

I thought I'd share it here, we well, since I know some of you know me on 4HV, but dont use LPF.

So I'm taking a class and passing it is simple. "As long as your making stuff, You'll pass" 100% freedom. Free to use materials with no charge, Preferred to do work on manual machines as students in this class arent support to know CNC ( Though I use it now/then anyways because I'm certified in solidworks, autocad, mastercam, etc ). So I decided I liked the arctic S3 host I use to own, and it was a good host, it fit my hands rather well. So this is a similar twist off that laser. so, it's a work in progress more/less.

So I was given 12" stock of aluminum, Aircraft grade T606. My teacher didnt have 1.5" and told me to just widdle it down. So a couple passes at 0.150" depth of cut, per pass, got it down to 1.5" diameter in no time. Stuff cuts like butter when you know proper speeds and feeds, tool didnt even care. So, my school lacked tooling for cutting ID threads. So my solution was simple. Create a very cruel tool.

So, some work later, and out comes this:

I still need to do some milling work, knurling, and finish making the focusing adjustment on the front as currently its 100% not made yet. Plus mill a spot for buttons, LEDs, etc.


So yeah. This was a quick nut-shell of my project. I'll be strictly posting completion pictures but I'm free to answer any questions.

Note: I made this with tolerance in mind going as tight as possible with the manual lathe machines we have. So the threads I found are actually a lot nicer than the arctic laser I had because they are butter smooth and have absolutely no slack/wobble ( noticeable to vision/feel ). I'm just happy I made the entire thing so far with no mistakes because I had absolutely no room to remake a single part of this. Literally have 2" of stock left to make the other parts..
