oh those look like those supply's for powering cold cathode lighting. not much current there but I bet you could get some decent voltage out of them.

Actually, I have gotten reasonable amount of current before. You just have to solder across the limiting capacitors , and watch the temperature of the transistors. You could also exchange them for higher power ones.

Well, i found the CC lamp and package of the "large" one (two outputs). Specs claim 400mA power consumption at 12V , so 4,8Watts. Although i know this is a switching power supply and not a simple transformer, i could roughly estimate the output at maybe 9mA (if output voltage is 500V), assuming zero losses. Again, i do not expect much out of a transformer wich is 1,5 x 2 cm...

I would like to give more info, but i am afraid to mess this this PS, as i do not have a voltmeter to measure HV ( over 600V) and maybe this thing gives HV pulses to start the lamp (why else the 3KV cap?), plus i can see no fuse of any kind, so if draw too much current i could blow the whole thing up...

Hi,

Grenadier said that "You can get the inductor from a computer PSU", since i live close to Michalis and i have a couple of PSU pcb, can anyone identify a inductor that could work for the ZVS (47μΗ-200μΗ) from these pics? I have no idea how an XμH coil should look like... sad

Just pull one of those inductor rings off and wind about 30-40 turns of wire on it.

You would want to pull off the largest yellow or yellow and white toroidal core on the board. It's a good idea to wind your own coil onto the core because you can control the number of turns and the wire gauge.

Thanks Grenadier,

I do not want to push it, but which one, the small or the big?I think the small will be a tight fit for 40 turns

is there a difference in parameters between them?
