Well, in begginings of discovering the miracle of coilguns, i burned 2 voltmeters. Curious about what it can be and why, i just twisted some resistor to LED, and while holding led in one hand and resistor in other by contacts, i touched capacitor if it is charged... it was :)

it kicked me meter away, or i kicked myslef by shock ... that is most terryfing experience i have with electronic i have. From that time, i am really careful about electronic, and nothing worse happened to me since then (knock, knock).

I discharge a full charged 3000uF 450VDC lync with a 10ohm 1/4W resistor tongue
Must I say more?

While messing around (testing) a friends DIY 800W amplifier, i accidentally discharged 4 x 22.000uF 100V caps with my hand, charged at about 160V DC (+82 to -82 volts supply). Felt worst than a 220V mains shock, never "helped" my friend again when i saw big caps where included on the device...

Related:
During 2004 olympic games preparations, i was in a crew of 6 people in an (live) underground Medium (20KV) to Low (220V) Voltage Substation installing some lines for an outside back-up station near a major venue. In there along with the 3-phase 800KVA HV transformer, was the main switches cabinet, about 3 meters long but only about a meter and half high. It was summer so most of us used to put a big plastic water bottle in the freezer the night before and brought with us in the morning so it would last the day. Only thing, the bottle keeps "leaking" water (as drops form at the outside of the bottle) all day, until all the ice inside melts. So as i was working on a back-up switches cabinet, i turn around and i see that someone left his bottle on top of the main switches cabinet and there was now a little pool of water (a bit bigger than my palm) on top of that 800KVA panel! amazed This could have gone really bad...

Also, these old transformers have a PCB-full oil to cool them called clophen, very nasty stuff, instant cancer. And some people are stealing these 5 tons pieces of metal (while live and onto poles) in the night, just so they can get the (soaked in clophen) 200kg cooper inside them! dead Link2

Evolution in action methinks..
what gets me is why they don't treat copper theft as looting.
Problem solved.
Its becoming a real problem in the UK with entire unoccupied houses being gutted just to get £500 worth of copper, and in one case an entire telephone trunk line was stolen for the metal affecting hundreds.
