What are you feeding the "Logic Input" with?
It should be short (maybe 50 to 250 us) pulses, you need an 'interrupter'
if the logic input is active for too long it will blow your transistors,
start with a low repetition frequency, 1 to 10 Hz with a short ON time, 50 us
and slowly increase the ON time for more spark power,
too much and you'll need new transistors!
Maybe sparkfun have an Interrupter kit?

Personally I'd connect the center-tap of T2 secondary to the junction of C1 & C2 to protect the eletrolytics from over-volting.

I'll verify this when I source the replacement parts, this sounds like a likely culprit (along with inadequate cooling and the like.)

There's a couple of video sources of this kit working, and working well, so I'm much more willing to blame my skills than any shortcoming of the kit.

It also looks like he's improved the design: ebay auction adding ground-loop protection at the top of the primary, and making it easier to tune.

It also sounds like, with the max voltages involved, that 600v IGBTs will be well above the voltages normally experienced.

Indeed, Most DRSSTC's including the minibrute and micro bruste from Eastern Voltage Research use 600V IGBT's, only when you get into the really big do people start looking for 1000V IGBT"s namely the bricks.

BTW LethalSHot yes the voltage after being rectified doe get up to around 310V but thats unloaded, once a load is placed on it it would drop back down to around 220ish, although I suppose using 400V parts would allow for degradation of parts and an over head on ratings just in case the parts experience a sudden spike in voltage.

The 400VDC comes from the fact that a lot of people including me use a 0 to 280VAC variac. When rectified 280 * 4.4141 = 396VDC ~ 400VDC

Is it really this difficult to source parts piecemeal? amazed One company has the IGBTs, but doesn't have the diodes, another has the diodes, but sells them in 1200 quantities, a third has the diodes, but doesn't _quite_ have IGBT's rated at what the first company does, a fourth has the parts, has the quantities, has the price, but the online shopping kart is seriously borked and you can't actually buy the stuff!

That's the way the world is, I've bought from eight different companies so far for my Tesla coil bits and haven't even got onto the electronics yet. Buy the IGBT's from the company that has the IGBT's and buy the diodes from the company that has the diodes or email your order to the company with the borked shopping cart.
