I would say that you aren't catching up to the evolving, not the other way around. I don't like rap, but others, i like. there just is too much rap, I can't understand what they're saying! rap + singing is good but, rap+ rap = bad

Certain rap I find good. Stuff like rapper's delight, but most of the stuff on the airwaves today I just can't stand.

Yea, worse stuff is coming out, but i don't think anyone needs to be linked, just so horrid. Women need to stand up against it tongue. Eminem is the only person that can make such music without making me puke my face off. His music is deep, and expresses his feeling, without the nonsense women=items for men's amusement.

I don't care if they rap about their endless money, their nice cars, or their beautiful wife, but when all you do insult women, and talk about kill this, shoot that, you kinda suck cheesey And seeing that i used to walk around the neighborhood all the time, and i have been around bad people, i can tell you that when you listen to that type of music, you do start to talk about the things they say.

Sorry, my thoughts where expressed horribly, but i just blame ADD :)

Its because of all those darned kids and their horribly set up stereos, and the "cute" boys that are picked to sing for the little kids and whoo the girls.

Oh and the fact that rap crap just requires stuff rhyme and some thumping sounds, and probably tossing in some insults, thats about it to make some quick cash.

For true rap it has to rhyme or go with the flow and consist of taling about money, sex, drugs, and shooting somebody.

"Popular Music" is a myth. Sure, there are some songs maybe half of the human species likes, that still leaves half who don't dig it. People have very varied tastes. Of your picks, Credence is the only one I'd choose to listen to. You probably wouldn't like most of my selections either. The pool of songs we both like would therefore be pretty small, add another person with different tastes, and the pool just got smaller.

On the subject of "rap". See, there isn't just "rap". It IS the majority of what gets air play though, so all you'll hear on the radio is that drum-machine rapid-high-hat crap where they talk about their rims and their bitches and their paypa-stax.

Then there's "hip hop". Groups like De la Soul, Boogie Down Productions, Blackalicious, Common, and The Roots. The music is noticeably more ummm, musical, and the lyrics are stuff that's actually evocative of thought and emotion. The Roots are (were? I'm getting old) actually a BAND, the kind that plays instruments! The Flobots are a more recent incarnation of a Band-That-Raps (and their violinist is severely cute.), though I'd say they do more of a rock-hop mixture of styles.

The Flobots are the only suggestion i can offer from the last 5 years (without memory-kindling), so there might be a trend like you're observing. I'm inclined to think it's just a rut though.

EDIT: My view is thoroughly Americentric on this topic, so excuse the omission of anything cool to come from the UK lately.

I don't limit myself to any particular types or styles of music, there are songs I like in must genres from Clasical/easy listening to Happy hardcore. That said I've not YET come across a Rap song that I like.

Martin.
