What relay bugs me is the general public either doesn't know, or doesn't care about all the internet freedom wars. This allows politicians to pass these laws which blatantly violate our first amendment rights. I am going to post this link on 4chan later and see what kind of sh*tfest I can stir up. Probably none, but it's worth a shot.

About f**kin time the gob'ment does something right. I just got this email:

XXX -- big news! Yesterday the Senate Judiciary Committee voted unanimously to send the Internet blacklist bill to the full Senate, but it was quickly stopped by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) who denounced it as "a bunker-buster cluster bomb" aimed at the Internet and pledged to "do everything I can to take the necessary steps to stop it from passing the U.S. Senate."

Wyden's opposition practically guarantees the bill is dead this year -- and next year the new Congress will have to reintroduce the bill and start all over again. But even that might not happen: Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Hollywood's own senator, told the committee that even she was uncomfortable with the Internet censorship portion of the bill and hoped it could be removed when they took it up again next year!

This is incredible -- and all thanks to you. Just a month ago, the Senate was planning to pass this bill unanimously; now even the senator from Hollywood is backing away from it. But this fight is far from over -- next year, there's going to be hearings, negotiations, and even more crucial votes. We need to be there, continuing to fight.

Now all we need to worry about is ISPs tier-ing the internet like the UK. So far it doesn't look too good... Link2

Let's hope COICA stays dead and buried.

Net neutrality is going to be a bigger struggle. The good news is that ISPs in the US seem to be hesitant to move forward with any sort of tiering until the matter is settled.

Post: It IS in a site's self interest.Just my opinion but the mods should never forget that.

Google "The Feinstein Law: bomb making on internet" and read what areas have a very solid boarder of "no-go". The possible prosecution levels are very high. There are very real laws out there.

Places like "totse" are so pathetically low-functional & essentially geared toward kids and those with no chemistry background. That they have realistically nothing to offer. While the "Organic Synthesis" site and the USPO have scaled back their offerings once the Bill was passed. And most people know that all the older drug cook web (after the Hive went down) places like Erowid are infused with law enforcement or informants (almost 3 out of ten posters): a person would be out of their mind to register there.

Not quite sure where that post went, but I need to reply to it.

I know websites like totse, rottoneggs etc are geared towards kids, but honestly I feel that is a good thing. Why? Well kids are our future. Sure you could have an "adult" chemistry website, but "adult" websites usually have stringent rules against profanity, flaming and off topic-ness. Kids love to argue and swear, so websites that allow those things are where kids go.

When I say kids are the future I really mean that. I agree with banning porn in school because school is no place to watch videos of mommy getting gangbanged. However I believe banning bombmaking is one of the stupidest things a government can do. Why? Well the main reason is that it is FUN! People like to see things go boom, especially kids. They see it and want to do it themselves. So then they join that organic synthesis forum and ask "how do I do this?". They get flamed and/or the banhammer. So they do another google search and find a forum like rottoneggs, totse etc and re-ask the question. They get an answer!

That child now proceeds to make some explosions, but he/she also sees that CHEMISTRY is involved! They could either just make a few explosions and go find something else to do, or they could be captivated by it and proceed to learn more explosive reactions. When they need chems for their explosions, they go watch a nurdrage video and see how stuff happens. That child now has a new hobby, and possibly a future career as a chemist.

I've talked to plenty of chemists, and they've all started out as pyros. Why is this? Well nobody sees a video of an acid dissolving aluminum and says, "I want to do that, it looks awesome!". They just don't, especially children, our future chemists. If you ban bombmaking websites you're going to have quite a shortage of chemists in the future. One might argue that the child could just go ask a chemistry teacher or go to a library instead of using the internet. Think about that though; A teacher telling kids how to make bombs would certainly get his ass handed to him nowadays, so that wouldn't happen. About the library bit, I can't remember the last time me or another kid I know went to a library on their own will.

I don't see the closed-minded politicians sharing my view anytime soon though. They're passing this bill to stop those arab extremists, but people like that only make up about .05% of the population visiting these bombmaking sites. The majority of visits are future chemists.

Also sorry about some bad grammar there ^^, I just want to get my reply there quickly because I'm in a little bit of a hurry.

I think this thread is rather pointless as it seems it was just meant to stir up some trouble and then left to die out. The idea crossed my mind when I 'discovered' that the OP doesnt really participate in the debatte. Whats the point in all of us saying what we think would be the best thing to do, if nobody bothers to take notice of what the others are saying.

Very very few online discussions are real debates. Nobody is going to change anyone's mind. The best outcome one can really hope for in a thread like this is to allow people to speak their piece. So long as everyone is being reasonably respectful of one another, I don't see any problem with it. If/when the thread degenerates into name-calling, flaming, trolling, or other absurdities, it will get locked.
