There is no varying quantity in DC. Irregardless, I got my new video camera charger today so I'll make a few videos later.

Yeah I was just thinking about that... I might just make the fan a battery powered snap on thing. I'll only need it at >24v anyway.
"rectified 48v will be about 67 volts" I'm powering this from lead acid cells. I'm pretty sure they aren't measured in RMS voltage. :p
Actually I'm aiming to kill at least one computer FB. Maybe 48V will do it. I'm not going over 48V though.
This is from my tl494 driver, so not completely translatable to a mazilli driver, but still some lovely long sparks that wound ignite from 40mm distance, voltage on the IRFP460 halfbridge is around 140VDC! Such a lovely glow around the core :)

Yea, but a 48v 8amp supply with a fan sounds like an iron transformer... If the supply is 4 batteries, just take the power from one battery for said fan. And in fact, use the same battery to supply the gate pullup voltage.

Nope, it's a 48V 8A SMPS.
Fun's over though. I dropped the power supply wire on the circuit and blew up a FET. I then replaced every silicon part, but didn't see a solder bridge. Needless to say that didn't end well. I'm going to order more FETs, but in the meantime I have nothing to do...

Yay I got 8 FETs in the mail today. I already blew out 2 because I forgot to put in the inductor. Derp.
At any rate, with the inductor securely in place the circuit works perfectly again. Here is some results at 12.51V in. I tested it with both a computer monitor flyback and the capless superflyback. They both put out 4kV. I consider that open circuit since the meter has a loading of 800meg.
The computer one oscillates at 30.8kHz. I'm not quite sure how the gate peak to peak voltage is higher than the input voltage... Each channel is one gate.
Edit: Holy sh*t these FETs preform much better than the ones I got at jameco. At 25.4V in a computer flyback gives me 14kV @ 60mA. That's 840 watts! I'm going to make a video sometime around midnight.
Edit2: Oddly enough the capless superflyback doesn't preform as well as the computer one. It nets only 10kV at 50mA (500W). Maybe it's because I used 18AWG insulated wire instead of 20AWG enamel wire, causing some losses on the primary. It also doesn't squeal before the arc breaks like the PC flyback.
Edit3: Had some doubts as to whether or not my ammeter was giving false readings, so I hooked it up a 30mA NST and what do you know, 30mA.

Alright, I've tried everything. I took some really nice videos but when I upload them to youtube it looks like I took them with a camera phone. For the past 3 hours I've been trying to figure out why, but I give up. Here's the crappy video.
