Tuning help

Oh. Well all's good then!

Just one thing is bothering me... how come there was nothing wrong with the safety gap before you switched to a multi-segment gap, since that wasn't the problem after all? It doesn't really matter at this point, I'm just curious as to whether you made any other alterations at the time.

I have wondered the same thing...I did also add my MMC yesterday morning, but I tested it with the old spark gap in place before switching out the gaps. I like to make one change at a time, so I know where my potential points of failure are. Only two real possibilities I can think of...

1- the copper sections are just that much more conductive than the little aluminum knobs I had before, and there was finally enough voltage to cause the loop.

2- the single aluminum gap caused the same thing, and I just didn't notice (hence it was really the MMC that did it)

I am leaning towards scenario 1, as I am pretty certain I did not have the arcs with the new MMC and old aluminum spark gap.

From now on, when I change a component, I will try to be more diligent about getting a quick video of everything to be able to verify and re-check for things of this nature.
