Putting the yellow boards in // doesn't increase the current they supply, and a cap charges just as fast with only one. However //ing the blue circuits, they work as expected --charging caps faster...

Blue has a lower wavelength than yellow does hence higher energy level.

I don't think that's the reason. :p

Not only is it a nice writeup and pic; but it's unique. Everyone looks for that unique area of a hobby or attraction that separates their page from others.....If that disposable camera concept were taken deeper through areas of HV, utility in other electronic areas, & (whatever) the camera's operation itself - it could make that page stand out in a rather smooth way. - no one else is doing it.

I'll look into it deeper, make schematics etc, but school's starting soon so it may take a little while.

I'm still trying to figure out the yellow board problem. Tomorrow I'll put diodes on the HV outputs, then // them. Maybe that'll do something. As for the nice pics, gotta love my sony dslr.

Also, disposable cameras are a dying product. Most companies are getting out of the film business. I don't think kodak will be making these anymore in 2 years.

ya I have actually built one of these to power a photo cap bank for science fair so I have allot of these little chargers.
I found out something strange on day when I replace the transistor of one of the charging circuit with a transistor from a small 12v neon light inverter (I think d1616) and it oddly put out more voltage I was able to power a small x-ray tube (its about the size of a Christmas light) I don’t know why this work but it did.

Has anyone metered the waveforms and frequency of these little circuits? I'm wondering if they can be used to power EL wire, but I don't think the frequency is high enough.

Judging by the squeal they make, I'd say it's at least 10kHz.

So, I just got done playing around with the yellow ones again. Putting a diode on the output before //ing them did not help. I'm stumped! Removing the neon lamp doesn't help either, though it does raise the voltage to 350. It looks like the neon is a corona voltage regulator, which explains why the output voltage doesn't change with the input. Removing it seems to allow the voltage output voltage raise.

I reverse engineered it and here's a schematic. It's very simple, and apparently relies on inductive kick to oscillate. I have no idea where to find the data on the transistors, but they're either both NPN or both PNP. I drew the schematic using NPN transistors. Diode is unknown too. Looks like kodak had all the parts specially made.

The whole page concept is quite nice. It's productive and clean. But more important....it's original.

You know that it terms of component identification, these things are all China contracted, HK mfg parts. The real likelihood of getting the quality info via datasheets you're used to is not great. You'd be lucky to identify a part similar enough to get close.

They most likely give them specs to follow and the companies have unknowns that come close enough to get the job done.

I saw long ago on insteuctables how to mod one with 2 cuts and one wire added. I like to take all the parts off and solder the leads on one another. Charges a lot faster than the normal circuit. I also put many in parallel :)
