i have one of those "sun safe" sensor things, which changes colour when exposed to UVB. when tested with a low power bluray laser it changed colour immediately, and the same sensor changed in a minute or so with a test 3mm UV LED.
EDIT:- you can also use a zombie diode (aka a blue laser which no longer lases) as a sensor. Remove the can and shine the UV directly onto the top of the diode, this works. its very sensitive to wavelength, 445nm doesen't affect it but 405 and 395 does.
