How many feedback turns do you have on the core? Maybe the gate of the transistor is being overpowered.

I had 4 feedback turns going...

Probably my issue, as I had planned on building the push-pull, but decided to try and test it with the single transistor setup to see if I could get any response with the windings first.

Out of TO-3's for now, so I am focusing on designing my SGTC with one of my NST's.
