Could you use microwave oven caps in some tesla coils?

 		That chart is an extract from a GE capacitor catalogue- it appeared in different forms (different dielectrics, probably technology of the day) in the 4th, 5th and 6th ED of the GE scr manuals dated 1969-1979. With luck they still exist in library stacks.

Yes, in a VTTC doubler or filter circuit (or SGTC voltage multiplier). I woudn't use them anywhere else.

 		The question of the thread could be narrowed by defining which circuits of a TC would be involved.

On another forum someone asked where the old SCR manuals could be found. Answer amused me. "The internet knows but might not tell"

 		These caps are NO GOOD for Tesla coil use.
The ESR of these caps is extremely high and under Tesla coil use they would heat up and explode.

 		Ironicly radiotech, as you said that, I was spending several hours trying to find mine!

and I found it, and I still wouldnt bet on MO caps as a tank capacitor in a spark gapped tesla coil, but I have used then as a doubler with no issues.

 		My first real coil used caps from a microwave. It was something like 10 watts input, with a bug zapper transformer. I used a bunch of different tank caps, such as the films from TVs.

To make the cap i just busted the MOC open and took the actual cap out. I used a small fraction of it to achieve the capacitance needed. I sometimes soaked it in mineral oil. There was tons of air in between the film and foil, it would run for awhile, then break down. And still, i was using some 2.5kv AC, which i should have seriesed a few caps to make it last longer.

It sure works when you are as desperate as i was. For awhile
