Man I took the bed off my truck only 10 bolts so it would be easier to work on and I found Swiss cheese for a frame :( but I hit it pretty hard with my sledge and it held up sounded strong I have to buy a new ring and pinion for the differential because off broken teeth another $120 down the drain.

Man that stinks. You could allways weld in some supports but then you'd be adding weight ;) Better get some chalk and a shim kit to set lash and run out to spec. on your diff. I replaced a u joint on my ram not too long ago and found one of the caps had no needle bearings left in it! reason I asked about the head gasket is I have a VW Diesel I serviced which has no alignment for the head and every time I tried to set it down the gasket would move just a little.

Well I am gonna finish up on the frame restore tomorrow after I go to court for my accident it is a simple rust removal an I made a couple cross members to strengthen it up I could beef up the leaf springs and build a dump bed for a 1ton it is strong I welded some flat stock across the strut mounts and a hefty piece of 6inch channel that is quarter inch thick right behind it where an old cross member was that fell apart and all that is left is to apply a little more bed liner when it is all done I will have to upload the pictures.

This is a triple post ha ha sorry but it is an update I am going to just buy a new rear end Monday now with the bed liner for rust protection I am about 90% complete with that i am going to cover the new rear end as well so that lasts a little longer I think u guys will like the before and after picks it is amazing what some TLC will do to a truck frame it looks like it just came out of the factory. Oh I got my welder to work again so I finished on the new cross member as well.

I just spent the past week sorting the engine management system on a Renault convertible I just bought. (I should quadruple my money if I sell it next spring)

The bed on my truck is rotten as well, and the cab needs welding. Re-built the engine 6 months ago after it siezed.

It's going to be £600 or more just for the panels for the cab, but I figure that will be better than patching the old ones.

As far as wandering head gaskets go, try a bit of blue hylomar (there is a german named eqauivalent, I'll post the name later), I assume you have that your side of the pond. Use just enough to hold it in place, and give it 15 minutes to dry a bit.

Remember to replace the head bolts on a VW, they can only be used once (some others can be used two or three times)(at least check for 'bolt stretch')
