Panos, take care that a big fat spike doesn't travel backwards into your power supply and ruin it!
Remember that a big negative swing usually follows on from the falling side of the output pulse.
Using a trigger enables you to disconnect your supply a very short time before firing, so that the pulse cannot be reflected back into your power supply. A vacuum relay switch timed to open 100ms or so before the trigger pulse will prevent the kick back going into the PSU.

If you just want a way to trigger the gap manually for entertainment, but so you don't get frayed nerves waiting for it to self trigger, which is what I think you're after, why not just some fishing line to pull a metal ball on a spring or up against gravity into the bottom gap to fire it? Then release the ball back out of the way while the Marx Bank recharges. In practice, set up the Marx Gen. and its power source so it won't quite fire on its own even after a long wait, allow to charge and then a quick tug on the line fires it. Or use some HiTec alternative to fishing line to move the trigger ball if that spoils the aesthetics
