The problem is that if something is profitable then often safety gets pushed to the back of the queue.
Case in point, a little while ago they said that dental x-rays were completely safe, now we know they increase the risk of thyroid cancer.

BPA, the next asbestos. News at 11.

Yet another concern for the poor people in Africa who salvage waste electronic equipment for a living, burning circuit boards could be a signficant BPA outgassing hazard as well as the lead and other noxious fumes..
