I just can get at a bound set of Nucleonics magazines for the year 1952. And that is a chore. (it is a dank old place and one folder i looked at last night had interesting insects in the pages !) no scanner there--imagine a scanner with insects that got in from an old book
Proudmary found a jstor site with the article "J. L. WILDING, C. S. SIMONS, and J. H. RUST, Multi-curie irradiation site for exposure of large animals to whole-body gamma irradiationi" but i couln't get at it other than the abstract.

Talking about the uranium craze of the 1950s, a film I saw on the telly last night begins with a desperate single mother who pitches up in a small town with her children hoping to make her fortune by uranium prospecting - until, that is, her life passes into the hands of a homophobic sociopath brilliantly played by Robert De Niro.
It was interesting to see the way that 'uranium prospecting' was used like a code word to represent unrealistic and impractical hopes of sorting out one's life, much like folk who base their future plans on winning the national lottery.

"This Boy's Life is a 1993 film adaptation of the memoir of the same name by Tobias Wolff. It is directed by Michael Caton-Jones and stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Tobias Wolff, Robert De Niro as stepfather Dwight Hansen, and Ellen Barkin as Toby's mother, Caroline.
