All is forgiven mads. Steve, the cw isn't powered by a osc, it's powered by mains. The caps discharge 18 million times a seccond so I think I worded it wrong. Alos I have to go with mads, i can make a less expencive sstc that wont need tuining the first time I turn it on and bigger sparks that is as hard as a vttc, but it wont make the buitiful sparks and low noise that a vttc gives. Also don't you love tubes? the glow and love makes me want to live in the 50s

Yes, you certainly worded it wrong. The power supply has no reason to know or care about the operating frequency of the Tesla coil part of the thing. There should be some sort of capacitor that keeps the RF and the power supply separate. If you use a C-W stack as a supply, the capacitance of the stack itself will bypass the RF somewhat.
However, at 60Hz (or 50 if you live in Europe) you'll need to use big electrolytic caps if you want to get much power out of your C-W.
For all those who feel they were born 50 years too late, here is a gratuitous picture of the tube amp I restored last year. :)
Hi why would I need caps? Where would i need them? I would think they are need at input because i don't think 2kv ele caps are made. by the way, I wish the real RCA was here, not this fake rca
