electric diving board???!!??

Of course! Any un-connected turns of your primary form an autotransformer! Particularly large primaries can cause large arcing issues if you are tapped at the midpoint and are not running efficiently aka wasting power in the primary tank because its not being absorbed by the secondary.

Without doubt the top left version is best as it stresses the transformer the least.

The one on the right will not work at all as the spark gap would instantly short circuit the capacitor.

The bottom left version would work but the full tank oscillations would be across the transformer / high voltage source.

I believe the top left one would be best for your current configuration, however there will still be a ton of RF energy being coupled back into your nst. Without proper filtering your nst will not live very long I would highly recommend a terry filter with a safety gap. Even without the filter you must set your safety gap to fire under normal conditions(i.e. nothing connected to your secondary). And if all goes to plan you should have a functioning circuit.

thanks .
i don't know anything about electronics so i know that safety gap is the only way.
