Luckily there is some less known music that doesn't take part in the loudness war. I once analyzed the songs I liked most, all had a huge dynamic range. The ones a didn't like didn't even have a single ms of silence . . .
It's almost a waste of money these days to buy a high quality audio system. The music is just messing up the sound even if you manage to reproduce it the way it's intended Too bad the mainstream doesn't even hear the difference between good and bad.

Recording a piano is difficult. Getting your speakers to make your ears believe the artist has interpreted the composition well is more than just hearing a piano-like sound.
Everything in the chain counts. The first machine I worked with was an Ampex 350 *single* track. There was one shot only, the placement of the mikes, yet the final result a LP mono vinyl disk sort of resembled what the customers wanted. Today they still press vinyl.
Whats that sound? Sorry, your conductor stomped the floor with his foot during certain passages. Was told about during rehearsal, still did it during the session.
The whole picture is what you hear, artist, recordist, and every circuit device including the material of the speaker cone. If everything was exactly the same, they would all sound the same.
