I'm less bothered about the balderdash that they use for high end audio. Nobody buys that stuff without listening to it (unless they are so stupid that they and their money will be parted pretty soon).
If they think they can hear a difference why should I care?
It's not like selling $0.02 magnets to little old ladies for $20 because it will " help their aches and pains". Nor is it like selling outrightly dangerous stuff and pretending it has been safety checked.

Anyone with a pair of ears can make an informed decision about how much they want to spend on hi fi. It's not so easy to see if a circuit breaker is legitimate.

Yes, it gets really worrying if counterfeit components end up in aircraft or hospital equipment.

During the investigation of Partnair Flight 394, a norwegian aircraft that crashed 18km north of Hirtshals in 1989 it was discovered that the parts that caused the crash, three of four bolts that connected the tailfin to the fuselage, failed to meet the quality specifications. After further investigation it was found that an unbelievably wast amount of aircraft spare parts were forged thrughout the entire industry, the FAA reported that 39% of their parts inventory was counterfeit. There was even discovered counterfeit parts on Air Force One!

Those cables are a ripoff, they don't even use metal joiners, just cheap laser engraved wood!

I had bought one of those bluetooth modules before, and opened it, and was surprised by the fake antenna. In all fairness, the dongle actually works pretty well.

This is my favourite, they are sold as compact fluorecent lights but are timed bombs just waiting to go off and scare people half to death. To increase value for money the built in fuse is designed so it arcs over and takes out any upstream fuses just to make sure you are left in complete darkness.

Audiophoolery. Love it.

How much can you pay for a piece of cable?

Just read it and weep - the pseudo-science babble is just wonderful. Prices "Starting at $2,398 per metre". To be fair, that is for a pair of cables...

What got me started on this was I bought a voltage regulator on eBay for a precision job and then started worrying it might be counterfeit. I asked the seller where they came from three times without any reply (he'd replied to a previous question), so I sent a photo to National Semiconductor. They said it looked ok, but they couldn't be sure. So I decided to bin it and buy one from Farnell. That's when I realised it was actually cheaper to get it from them than eBay, and it arrived quicker. No more eBay components for me without a good reason.

While I was india, fuse boxes for electric power (next to the sidewalk) had aluminum wire wrapped around the terminals to act as a fuse. Not only that, but the cages were often left unlocked and open.
