How ought war be fought? Both sides lining up all their soldiers and marching into bullets until one side either forfeits or has no one left? Thats not how its done anymore.
The sad truth about war is that killing is required. Killing innocent people too. (each country must put themselves first and foremost, cannot lose their soldiers/citizens to save an enemy unless it could benefit the country) War is not just a physical struggle, but a mental one. The arabs know that Americans are weak minded and squrim at the thought of anything less than our little bubbles we live in. They are outnumbered and outgunned. Big time. All the great nations in history used some brutal tactics to win. Hell, even the animals do it! Its how fighting is done! If you messed with the Romans, they came in and killed everyone for it. The Israellites killed everyone along with their animals. The USA dropped atom bombs on the Japanese citizens and did a great deal of mental damage to the country. (Which they admit caused their surrendor).
People ought to be appalled at WHY people go to war rather than WHAT happens during war. That way if you ever have a chance to alter whether or not war is started, you make the RIGHT decision. (War is a last resort).
I am not for killing non-combatants, but I will not question our generals at how they do war. I would be just as insulted to have a football coach question me with ohms law. Now, raping and pillaging is another thing entirely...
I know all this sounds harsh, but its how the most powerful nations won their wars...

I would think that not shooting unarmed reporters and people attempting to assist the wounded would be a good start.

So raping and stealing is bad, but shooting people trying to pick up the wounded is just peachy? Everything is not as black and white as you wish it to be, especially in this case. I think that anyone who is claiming to act on behalf of and in the best interests of all Americans should absolutely be subject to question by Americans. Politicians, police officers, soldiers, and officers should not be above reproach; they work for the American people in the most literal sense of the word.

Matt,
Asking for the second time now. Did you serve???
Who cares if he served or not?? That is not going to change the footage that he posted here. What the hell are we doing over there? Liberating the people? Bringing them democracy? Bullshit!! THis is about MONEY as with everything! War is a moneymaking tool. What appalls me is not the actual act but the video game attitude of the soldiers there. They probably honestly thought they were going to get blown out of the sky by an RPG when it was just a telephoto lens. They did what they thought was right, because that is how they are trained. It was when unarmed people came to retrieve their kills that they turned into animals, staking their kills, and with no remorse when they discover children had been hurt. War is ugly. I hope never to have to defend myself from soldiers, because they will not look at me and my family as human...just collateral damage.

No, I didnt serve. I dont think that disqualifies my views (incase that is where that question was headed). I just respect the military and those that serve. (except for the bad apples out there raping and pillaging).
The majority of responses here only go to say that each and every one of you should thank our soldiers for doing what you would never be able to stomach. Remember, soldiers are trained to do as they are told. Good thing we dont have a draft...
I dont blame our soldiers for being jumpy, the enemy is using every sneaky trick they can come up with. I have friends that DID serve and I can tell you that you all would probably jump the gun too after seeing what they have seen. Try having a little kid come up asking to play ball with other kids at a park guarded by US soldiers only to have the kid self destruct himself leaving the US soldier burned completely into something that looks less than human and SURVIVING permanently disfigured to tell her story.
I say, let our soldiers do the killing and let us engineers do the soldering. They likely wont question why we chose a particular part in our up and coming tesla coil (thats not what they are trained to do), so lets not question how they fight war. (With the exception of raping and pillaging). You cant win a war by playing nice.
I also feel that we shouldnt be in the war. My opinion is that we are there for MONEY and INFLUENCE on that oil. Its costing quite a bit, but that oil is worth far more, so it evens out. Remember, our soldiers arent over there thinking about oil, nor are their generals. Its our CRAPPY politicians that are calling the shots.

Harry,
President Bush and Prime Minister Blair most certainly DID NOT lead us into a dark age. If anything they only staved off the decline into a dark age that will follow allowing Islam to take hold anywhere. Just look at what they've done to your country already, and Europe as a whole. Please review a list of the Islam's against the US and by extent the free world, over the recent past. --For some reason it does not list the 3000 innocents that were massacred in the name of Islam on one morning in September of 2001 - that is when the sleeping giant once again awoke.
You being what[ever] you are; would do well to educate yourself about what Islam says about homosexuality. I personally find homosexuality to be disgusting and reprehensible. I am, however, perfectly content to live in peace next to you. The Islams will not extend such a courtesy; but rather would cut off your head with a dull knife, or pour boiling oil down your throat or some other such 9th century savagery for your crime.
All of this is easy to dig up with a quick Google search. You're all so amazingly smart, and technically educated, yet so misinformed about matters of world politics. It's just disheartening, ugh :(
About the fifth column "journalists" that were in the line of fire; it's war, war is hell. Embed yourself with the losing side and you're going to get what you get. Listen to the audio, you hear the gunner get clearance to fire. The ROE were not violated.

1. It was a mistake, it happens, get over it
2. If you're going to cast blame, OBAMA Promised the pull out, WOOPS, our troopers are still there, so Blaming Bush is a dog without teeth.
3. People die. War is hell.
4. We're still here. If you want a fight about whose right and wrong, there are plenty of sites to do that on. I really want to blame Obama for a lot of things but I don't get to do that here, so I have to Police myself.
5. Let's get back to talking about Tesla coils and blaming Bush for them not working properly.

Haz, Uh, no. "It" was not a mistake. Please go and read this list of attacks.. They were at war with us, the US, and the free world long before people woke up (literally) to the problem on Tuesday the 11th of September, 2001. It wasn't until shortly after that were WE at war with them. We finally did what was necessary; take the war to them. We did not start the war, but we are ending it. In 1945 and WWII, we did not start it, but we ended it.
Oh, and in case you didn't hear, which I doubt you did being that you're listening to enemy propaganda on cnn/npr/etal; Sadam DID have have WMD, we did find it/them. Pres. Bush did not make a big deal out of it because he was not a conservative ideologue (as he should have been), but instead was stuck on this "new tone" stupidity which basically amounted to letting the left say whatever they wanted to say; unchallenged.

+1
BTW, have any reasonable explanation of why my P and N channel fullbridge of FETs has 4 amps of shoot-through at 24v but only .3 amps at 15v? I think Bush has something to do with it.
I guess politics, wars, news, and religion is too touchy even for highly edjumacated mature people to talk about it civilized. I don't watch the news, or do my research on things, so i have no opinion. It is best that way, not knowing how the earth around you is crumbling. Woohoo, back to cursing Bush out \m/-_-\m/
