I own one of those coils. Having no prior experience with coiling but a good amount of experience with electronics, it has proven to be a great learning experience to say the least. First off, the blue acrylic case is expertly machined and constructed; it's really sharp. The primary and secondary came pre-wound. The toriod is decent; better than anything I could have put together myself. I did have to re-drill the mounting hole as it was off-center for some reason. The PCBs are well done and the manual well written.

I had 4" streamers on the first light; but after tinkering with the tuning, and adding another 10nF cap to the MMC, I've settled in on the optimum tap point and now have consistent 14"-15" arcs from the breakout point. This coil can run without fault for quite a long time and I don't even notice the IGBTs getting significantly hot. I'm very happy with it for what it is. It has found a permanent home on display on my bench at work.

Its a great little kit. Well worth the purchase price.

It runs on 12VAC input from a plug pack, which is stepped up inside the coil itself by a transformer.

AmonRa, got any more pics of the circuit/complete coil etc? The pics on eBay are really low resolution and it's hard to see all the small detail.

Cheers,
Dan

I own one as well. The guy who designs them used to be a member here, but was banned over a practical joke which turned sour. It is by far the best small coil I have ever built. When I got mine the transformer was dead, but I found a replacement online and since then have been incredibly happy. I would highly recommend buying that kit.

Do you have any pictures of it handy?

I've been lookin everywhere for some pics bigger than the ones on eBay, you can't really see all the small detail in those.

Regards,
Dan
