does anyone know or have experience on where or what appliances or comertailly available items, might house IGBTs? (rating doesn't matter, im looking for sources)
if you know where to find them, or what appliance they can be tore out of, please share it.

As far as i know the only place to farm igbts is from industrial vfds (variable frequency drives). Other than that, most commercial or industrial grade induction heaters will have them in there. Mosfets are readily available in car stereo amps. However, i dont really know an easy source if igbts. If you find out something good, let me know!

forgive me for sounding like a dumbass, but by induction heaters, do you mean an induction (cooking) stove? or the coils that used to heat up metal via induction?

They are both the same, both use coils and induce a current in metal stuff.
I have never seen an IGBT in anything. You can find plenty of mosfets in CRT monitors, sometimes in TVs, and in any LCD, plasma, or LED TV or monitor i am sure they have mosfets for the SMPS. You can sometimes get mosfets from computer PSUs, but at least for older used ones, you will normally find one or two ~10 amp BJTs. Amps of the PWM type have mosfets which has already been suggested. Linear amps contain medium sized BJTs. Any appliance that could have a SMPS could have mosfets.
I have not seen an IGBT, but i have to really work to get the TV's i have gotten.

The most obvious source of them would be an induction stove (although the chance of finding one of those up for salvaging isn't too great)
I can't think of many other things, large UPS supplies will have them, but most of the smaller home grade ones use normal mosfets (still quite powerful mosfets!)
If you can expand to car electronics, most modern ignition systems use IGBTs, although they are usually encased in a solid block of resin so it is not trivial to get at them.

A good source that hasn't been mentioned are welding machines, they will usually have quite heavy duty IGBT's in them, larger ones nice bricks or SOT-227 IGBTs. Though finding a broken welder with working IGBT's is imo like finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Just a heads up though.

Sorry for the late reply! Both will have them. Also, welders have pretty good ones in them, he is correct with that!
