I've been thinking of getting one of these for a while. Anyone have one? I'm wondering if it's worth it. I found this one on ebay but it seems too good to be true at 76 bucks. What do you think is going on here?

Link2

Everywhere else, including other ebay auctions, they go for upwards of 200 bucks.

edit: I'm not sure if I really want this thing, the downloads are only a buck or two cheaper than the actual book would be. If that's the case I would rather hold a real book in my hands. Of course my apartment is mad that "real" books are taking over all my space so maybe i should reconsider. Any advice welcome.

If its too good to be true, It probably is,
for that low price It might be stolen, not working properlly (or at all) or some other problem or scam,
buy at your own risk, personally I wouldn't do it.

I say go for it. It says 49 have been sold, and his feedback is 100%. Google it and see if you find anything.

He does, however, not have any feedback as a seller. All his feedback is from stuff he's bought the last couple of days, an most of the stuff he's bought has been cheap stuff and obvious auctions just to get feedback. Here are some of the items he's bought lately: "1 CENT auction 100 Feedback 24 hours or less EBOOK CD", "Car Wallpaper 100% Feedback Given ASAP 1 Cent", "Photo Picture funny cat Positive Feedback Automatic100%", and "FEEDBACK !!!! instant buyer feedback .99 Free shipping". All at a dollar or less. I'd actually bet money that this is a scam.

Yeah thats a pretty classic ebay scammer.

I've played with the kindle, its a nice device, but it has a few big flaws for anyone who wants to do more than read the latest best seller. The Barnes & Noble Nook is the same price, is very hackable, and has expandable memory up to 16GB via microSD (kindle has no expandable memory). That lets you read ebooks from *any* source so long as its PDF, EPUB or one of its other formats. This includes datasheets, google books, books your friends might already have, and the like. And it still preserves the 3G functionality of the kindle.

The Sony Touch is coming down in price right now because of the newest Sony E-reader being released. Its about the same price, has crazy expandable storage, and a touch screen. No wifi or 3g though. It was my first choice, but I opted for the more spendy new Sony because I wanted wifi.

I just ordered a Sony Daily Edition (PRS-900). Chomping at the bit to get my paws on it late this month.

You guys are right. This has to be a scam. I didn't know you could look at what a sellers feedback is for but as Anders said it's all under 1 dollar purchases. Clearly this guy is boosting his feedback to make it easier to scam these imaginary kindles. I hope no one falls for this crap.

I kind of knew this was probable, but my question still stands. I'm willing to pay full price if it seems worth it. Thanks for the advice dave, I guess I have to research further.

Wow, 74 sold. Pretty classic scam, unfortunately. Hopefully PayPal will protect at least some of these folks.

I received my Sony Daily Edition a few days ago. I'm in love.

The PC software that it came with is amazingly bad. Windows ME bad. Apple Ipad bad. Luckily, there are some great third party free apps that can do the same job. Worth the money in my book!

How do you find the availability of ebooks Dave? I plan on using this thing primarily for Physics/Math/Engineering books. I was eyeballing the Nook but there don't seem to be a great amount of books available. Even if they are they are usually only one or two bucks cheaper. Sometimes they are depressingly expensive. For example I want to read "A Students Guide to Maxwell's Equations". The actual printed book is $27 on amazon. I cant find a digital version for less than 64 bucks! What the heck! Do you have a good source for PDF's? That would help me make my decision. The nook is supposed to be available next week at the Barnes & Noble near me, so I want to decide by then. Thanks again,

Dennis
