As a draftsman I only use laser printers, otherwise I'd be here all week to try and print 150 drawings on an inkjet. Besides, they're great for making pcbs with.

The old laser printers generally outlast the computer...
I have bought a used BW laser printer 20$ and it is the most reliable printer I ever owned. It is an office quality printer that uses 10,000 page toner carterages. It may outlast me for home use... Inkjet printer are just garbage.

tried to refill an hp *17 cart today as just the magenta was being a moose.
No chance. It worked for a little while then failed again.
It seems that the generic inks degrade very quickly in storage as this was a fresh unopened bottle.
On the flip side, old Epsons do have their uses, such as making PCB printers (yellow Durabrite ink bonds well to hot copper)
Klugesmith, that stepper hack is neat! where did you find it? i wonder if i can use a continuous rotation modded servo connected to a small stepper to make a poor man's pc-stepper driver? :)
BTW If I ever get voted into the Govt I will impose a $200 disposal tax on the sale of all new inkjet printers until the manufacturers stop the price gouging and allow refilling of cartridges with their ink, preferably for 10% of the cost of a new one IMHO the EU should come down on HP like a ton of bricks for deliberately making unrecycleable "clever" cartridges that add to landfills and pollute the environment.
