Area51, if you are going to use an SSTC, here's a nice little schematic for an audio modulator
you can connect the output of this thing to a gate driver IC (I belive its UCC37322) and you connect that output to the 3rd pin (enable) to modulate the output of your SSTC, also, it would help that if you do decide to build an SSTC if you mentioned what type of driver you are using and the type of arrangments of the FETs (H-bridge, fullbridge, etc.)
Im not sure if this type of modulator will work for a DRSSTC, I have never build a DRSSTC.

(note this schematic is just a modulator, it is not an SSTC schematic, if you want, I can give you the driver, H-bridge and interrupter schematic as well as the logic power supply, I have a bunch of schematics on my hard drive that I havent used in a while.)
this modulator is simple to build, the only ICs it utilizes is an opperation amp (LM471) and your standard 555 timer,
this is not my design, I dont remeber where I got this schematic from.
Also, I recomend that you dont use your expensive Iphone to provide an audio source, good chance that the modulator will rape it with a voltage spike, use a cheap little player you dont care about.
