On a similar note, can anyone explain what's behind this?
(if you have time, try to watch the whole video)

umm... it looks like a gaint torriod with wire wound around it...

If I had to guess, I would say the multimeter was set on OHM, and he put a resistor inside that socket.
either that or he rigged it that the VOLTAGE was actually a fake reading or OHM reading.

or he has a gaint super quite tesla coil somewere (yeah right), that is inducing a current into that torriod?
either that or the torriod is actually a battery bank or some other supply, cleverly disguised as a torriod.

If you watch the whole video he'll show it powers up a 100 watt lightbulb, a TV, a vacuum cleaner etc., he also shows there are no electromagnets under the table and he brings it outside and the light bulb still lights up.
Pretty weird but there must be some explanation.

dont take this as me bieng rude, but have you considered that there might be a power supply (batteries and an Inverter hidden inside these appliances? as for the lightbulb, I'm not sure. but I think that that TV is a CRT, plentry of room to hide stuff in there (weed, guns, a power inverter). and the vacuum cleaner has a compartment for the dust bag,

so I think a class C inverter or your standard 1KW inverter from radioshack can fit in there with ease.

It is a favorite tactic of free-energy advocates to link to a lengthy, uninteresting video (frequently of poor quality), and insist that one must watch it all to "get it." No offense or insult intended to be directed at you, Dr Kilovolt -- just a common theme that I've noticed. Most engineers and scientists have seen this hundreds of times before, and have little interest in spending a significant chunk of time debunking yet another free energy claim. It would be easiest to just get to the root of the matter: what is the person claiming he/she can do, and how does he/she claim it is done? More often than not, the answer to the second part of the question is absent, in which case the claim can be dismissed.

As for the video at the start of this thread, as soon as I saw "Steorn," I closed it. They've been the Duke Nukem Forever of free energy for a good long while. Plenty of promises, lots of investors, not one iota of anything verifiable. A commercial launch is always just out of reach, for some reason or other.

So long as the discussion remains civil, this thread can remain open, but as soon as it turns into either insults, or free energy advocates crying conspiracy, it's getting the padlock. I would suggest that this thread be moved to the general science thread, and retitled appropriately, though, to prevent it from being dragged off topic.

Dr. Kilovolt,
I will not speculate on the Steorn related matter...

However, wireless power transmission is now commercial, and a little less fringe these days:
Link2

So I would wager the thing is likely either:
1.)
a ULF version of the old U.S. Patent# 836,531 "Means for receiving intelligence communicated by electric waves"(Greenleaf Whittier Pickard.) ...and a large transmitter is located near by...

2.)
coupling to a staged 400Hz system out of an old sub/boat/plane, regular HV power transmission-line/substation, or whatever. Note he re-zeros (beeps) the clamp-on meter before taking any measurements of the device, and it still changes as the rooms field is not uniform.

The preamp in the microphone seems to pick-up a strong 60 Hz hum, changes throughout the house, and stops when the camera passes though the aluminum doorway. Additionally, the severe ohmic heating of the device suggests possibility 2 is probable. But, the visual interference of low frequency emf seen on the TV (lines of static) also suggests a motor/arc is in proximity.
cheesey

Cheers,

The whole world is a stage. If I was paid to stage the big torroid and the 100 watt bulb, I would use a 12 volt 100 watt RV bulb, stuff the ring full of the cells from a 14.4 volt power tool battery, rip the guts out of 60 watt cigar lighter size inverter for 110 volts to fool the multimeter, and add a hummer from a cell phone to make it vibrate and make something that 'hefts' heavy like he had.

As the instructor in the film industry course said. We make magic.
