AAAAARGH!

gets crowbar, pries open clogged tubes and recieves...

A green laser module, some chips and an arduino board!
I basically just kept hitting 'try again' every two minutes for about an hour. Toward the end I couldn't even get a confirmation page but the charge is on my bank account and I received an email so I guess I'm getting my swag. I way underestimated how long it would take though. I guessed 4:59. I'd like to see a map of where all the traffic was coming from.

No joy here either. I tried multiple times over the course of the morning, got to my shopping cart a few times, but never to the checkout aisle. Boo hoo!

Yea I am just trying to see how much Sparkfun actually lost. They probably sold $200,000 in stuff in total from all orders but from that they can claim a large IRS tax write off and get back like $40,000 of the $100,000 that they lost. It just doesn't make sense to me why they would give away free money especially $100,000 that could buy a hell of a pick n place machine for them or a really high end 3d printer so they could expand to producing small 3d parts for business. They had motives behind this day that were not on the "free day homepage" I can guarantee this!

It was only $100 off which is not a big deal so it didn't really tick me off but I guess we shall see how things play out from here with Sparkfun.

From what I know, I think it was a publicity stunt more than anything, they do keep talking about growth.

Look at the homepage right now they definitely got a massive amount of publicity on the internet.

From the homepage

Thank you Freenode for hosting our crazy day! We where the busiest chat room on IRC for a few hours today. We beat out ubuntu and debian for a bit.

We peaked the SparkFun chat room with about 2400 users. It was very insane. Graph came from a SparkFun friend who was parsing the user levels.

For a few hours, SparkFun was the number one search term on the internet. Wow. The power of having a friend recommend a site through Twitter, Facebook, email, and everything else is incredibly amazing.

And up there with the Google traffic, Twitter was ablaze! We barely made it onto the trends list for about an hour. We were up there with CES and Nexus One! Wow.

______

They definitely got the point out to a lot of people that they exist!!

WOW that is really stupid, you should send that to Sparkfun just to show them what their servers were doing! I am just baffled at some of the things people bought like look at the most bought item, green led's (145 in total). And who bought them ONE person in ONE order lol!!!

imo but that person should have bought something more useful he was *probably* someone who saw it, isn't into micro controllers and realized he could get a bunch of led's for free. Its like handing welfare checks out to poor people who go and spend it on drugs, booze, and tobacco but never use it for its real purpose or for good. I am sure that it they gave out 1,000 arduino starter kits to 1,000 customers it would have brought the world of basic micro controllers to people who could truly enjoy them. I don't see how 145 led's will bring someone great joy plus you could get this many on ebay for about $5 - $10 with FREE shipping so it would have cost the same lol

I am not mad about me not getting my order but I just feel bad for the people who could have gotten something useful like an arduino starter kit but got screwed by people who bought 145 led's!

Maybe, but then again why not by four 8 x 8 led matrix modules for that?

I just realized Z28Fistergod that you live close to me its like the first time I've seen someone on the forum has been within a short a drive not a plane ride to another state or country lol!
