Maybe not technically a native animal, but certainly native to wherever humans are found...

I found these two poor house mice on the sidewalk, looking disoriented and weak, and extremely sluggish. At first I thought they were dead. They were obviously very young, and shouldn't be out on their own yet. A while after I stopped to look at them, a lady came out of the nearest house and told me that a few days ago, her cat had killed a female mouse who appeared to have been nursing. Long story short, I decided that while they may be pests, I couldn't just leave them to die on the sidewalk. So I scooped them up and took them home. There was a third who seemed to be in better shape, and ran into a drain pipe. Sadly, that one will probably not survive on its own.

First, here they are in the container I put them in. The brown and black dots in there with them are fur mites. They were heavily infested, probably because they had been without food and water and were in no condition to fight off a mite infestation.

When offered water, they drank copiously. After a little food and a dose of ivermectin (to kill the mites or any other bugs they might have) they burrowed in to sleep.

A day later, this one is looking much improved. No sign of mites, and plenty active.

Here, one attacks a drinking straw, provided for scale.

I am not sure yet if I am keeping them or releasing them into the wild. I currently have plenty of rodents who are very good companions, and unfortunately, would consider these little guys tasty morsels.

Plenty of these fellows around last night. I was unloading a trailer with several hundred kilos of HV/UV stuff after midnight under lights at home after a long drive.
They are cockchafers (yes you read it right). As a handful they dissipate within seconds by crawling/flying or burrowing between your fingers. They are a bit scratchy but otherwise harmless.
Sometimes these have been eaten as a food (presumably by very hungry people). I have tried witchety grub once though. Can't recall if I vomited after though.

The Canadian ones that look similar, at least in Northern Ontario, are colloquially called "June Bugs"

We have those bugs also in Florida!I hate them! They come in my apartment and fly around like lil bombers. ( I named them bomber bugs) They like to fly right at your face!
Me and my roomate used to throw them at each other when neither expected it. Hundreds always show up around may-june...

Here's a Green Heron that visits our pond. I swear I was less than 15ft from him. I could have gotten closer but my cousing kept talking and making noise.
