I will systematically address the foregoing points.

Bjørn; I'm sorry. I could not understand what you said.
Though, I get the impression that you did not care for the length of my post, and I'm sorry about the long windedness; I simply had a large number of points I wanted to make.

MinorityCarrier; You're right, it is. Which is why it offends me that this pseudo science passed off as science related to supposed global warming is treated with such reverence here.
Science is just whatever those putting it forth want it to say. It is oft driven by grant money or other agendas. I remember the summer of 1998, it was scorching hot. This last summer was very mild; which was good, because I had a LOT of outdoor work that I got done.

Just for a second, if we accept the supposition that the temperature is increasing, how can you ignore the obvious; it was very cold in the past, it is warmer now. That trend could be continuing, and if observed for long enough, could be seen. None of it indicates human activity or CO2 is responsible.

The son of one of my mother's friends was invited by his school as a part of his graduate degree to go on a trip to Antarctica to study climate change. When he let it slip that he did not "believe" in global warming, his invitation was withdrawn. That is the kind of "science" you're talking about.

"came on the scene" as in into public discourse and public consciousness.
Though perhaps 3-4 was a bit short.. maybe 6-8 years? It's hard to say, but
it is fairly recent.

And yours? I could link to any number sites with scientific studies/reports, as I'm sure you could as well. I'm trying to appeal to your logic because any study can be manipulated or just outright falsified.

I find your last sentence offensive, bordering on threatening, and leads me to believe that I struck a cord with you. I do not know what "DRE's" are. The coal industry (probably) powers your Tesla coils. I say something you do not like, so you propose shutting me down. Isn't free speech grand. I love how the left is all in favor of free speech provided it happens to be what they want to hear.
I quote your statement for archival purposes.

If you want to spew nonsense, DRE's, and coal-industry disinformation, don't expect it to be tolerated here for very long.

Your posts seems to be mostly rants targeted at your own demons rather than a contribution to a discussion. The topic is set by the first post, try to stick to that. After the last few days we can do with some calm.

Indeed, let's try to keep in mind that this is a science forum, not a politics or a debate forum. Posts that contribute nothing other than senseless and endless debate are subject to removal, regardless of who is on which side of any political fences.

Certainly not! But that's the way I see them marketed; as something that you leave on while sitting on your desk or shelf, all the time. I suppose future models will incorporate advancements like color E Ink, and power consumption will fall.

Our frame runs 24/7, mainly due to the fact that it doesn't have a random function, so everytime you turn it on it goes back to the first photo. All the kids love it though, it sits in the kitchen and evey meal they laugh at the funny photos of themselves.
Waste of electricity, yes, without kids I just wouldn't have one, my computer screens serve the same purpose during the screensaver.

...and they presumably waste even more power than the photo frame!?!?!? suprised

Just use a horrid screensaver, problem solved.

GeordieBoy, laptop screens still use less than 20 amps. That can be considered a leakage current.

(tongue in cheek)
oh I dunno.. if you were to put a low voltage converter on the front of it, you could easily get better than 20 amps draw off of the low voltage supply. :)

With my logic (assuming that you need heating in your house to keep the temperature constant) all the power "wasted" by electronics appliances will just reduce the amount of heating needed. This does not apply to hot areas/summer where you dont need heating for your house.

The worst circumstance is if you live some place where it is very hot since not only do you have to pay for the electricity the picture frame uses, you also have to pay for the heat to be pumped out of your house.

If the backlight is very inefficient you could try to figure out where the problem is and make a new driver for it or replace it with a high efficiency LED.
