Uggh! This whole thing is getting entirely out of hand with the media and CDC misreporting.

Every single sniffle with a fever is now (actually, i think since July 2009) being reported to the CDC (by doctors and hospitals per CDC guidelines) as a case of "Swine Flu" even though tests aren't even being performed anymore.

I have a friend who works in the ER and he told me that every respiratory case with a fever is automatically reported to CDC as "swine flu" whether its influenza or not.

Totally nuts. Hopefully other countries in the world have a bit more sense than the United States on this subject!

Colin Powell issued a warning two years ago about a "Terrorist/Industrial Complex". There's money to be made by industrial interests keeping Americans uniformed (aka ignorant) and scared. I suggest this Swine Flu Madness is partly fed by these interests.

I've already had this flu, 36 hours of nasty headache, fever, skin hurting, sleeping alot (until the ibuprophen wore off). That's it. There have been several other cases with my co-workers, the ones who got seriously ill have other health problems. This is a TYPICAL influenza. It has some alarming DNA sequences, nothing more. Take Vitamin D and don't overwork yourself.

Same here. I had lung fever few years ago and that was terrible compared to this swine flu

It is estimated that 170.000 norwegians are infected, and we have had only 14 deaths. The death rate is not that high.

A few days ago the health department actually stated on national TV that if you catch a flu, it is swine flu. Like all other diseases are on vacation.

Sweden ordered, I think, ordered almost 2 doses per capita, pretty much everyone is getting vaccinated. Not a very big population but still good money for the manufacturer. Well worth any advertisement cost tongue

Also I read in the paper today that all schools in Ukraine is closing to prohibit the spreading ^^

We decided to get seasonal flu shots today...Not much plan for the N1H1...Yet...I havnt met anyone so far in school or around that was going to get the shot anyways..Not much people talking about it here, but rules still going around for the regular flu, to wash your hands often, and the basics.

Hang on?
The CDC (and its counterparts throughhout the world) have to keep some sort of eye on swine flu simply because it may turn nasty (as might any other 'flu).
They cannot hope to test everyone who might have it- the cost would be silly too.
They therefore ask for "anything that looks like 'flu" to be reported.
If the number go up suddenly they know it's time to break out the tamiflu (and that their vaccination startegy has failed).
If the numbers are no different from normal seasonal 'flu (and they know what those figures are) then they know there's not much of a problem.

What else could they do?

I for one wont be having the vaccine. First off, there has only been a handful of deaths, making it quite tame next to regular seasonal flu.

Secondly, this is the first time this vaccine has been tried, i.e. it is untested. Historically there are many cases where untested vaccines have done more harm, than the virii they were designed to protect against.

Thirdly, since the vaccine is packaged in 10 dose bottles, some bright spark, decided to add an organomercury compound to it as a preservative, which is metabolized to produce ethyl-mercury, a known neurotoxin and teratogen.

I will take my chances with nature thanks! smile

The things that irk me about what the media has [mis]represented are the actual facts about the mercury and adjuvants in vaccines. They like to skirt around the facts about it and use the word 'debunk' alot. Debunk has been associated with people that put theories out there that are 'crackpot'....

Example paraphrased from a leading Canadian newspaper ( link: Link2 ) and the public health agency of Canada (link: Link2 )

- Yes, the vaccine does contain 5mcg of thiomersal per dosage
- A tuna fish sandwich contains 25mcg of mercury
-> Conveniently skirt around the concept that absorption via the gastrointestinal system is completely different than intramuscular injection.

- Also, the non adjuvanted vaccine for pregnant women contains 50mcg (!!) of thiomersal per dosage
-> Wait, pregnant women aren't allowed to eat tuna fish sandwiches for even the risk of mercury exposure, which according to their own talking points isn't that toxic, yet 50mcg is considered 'safe dosage'??
-> Where is the safety data indicating that 50mcg is safe, or any reasoning why 50mcg is needed?

- Squalene adjuvants have been debunked as a cause for Gulf War syndrome
-> Really, debunked? Science doesn't work that way, you come up with a theory, you find evidence which supports or does not support it. If the theory can't be modified to support the new evidence, chuck it out and start again. Never do you just say 'yes, its been debunked. Of course it was debunked that the earth was flat!

And personally, I've had a fear of needles most of my life, the last flu shot I ever had I reacted to fairly badly and pretty much passed out, yet when I had a few vials of blood drawn for testing, I had no reaction to a substantially larger gauge needle in a vein... I was a skeptic as to the reaction towards either the needle or the contents of the injection, but that solidified it even more...

If you are forced to get the shot, at least go for a single dosage vial which hopefully shouldn't contain the thiomersal preservative (which the efficicacy of anti-bacterial activity is debatable).
