I was wondering HOW the calculation for primary L and C is calculated...
for example my secondary (including topload) is 200Khz(or something close to that).. so my primary would HAVE be 13Turns/5" Diameter with 10nF cap.. or 9Turns with 20nF... according to teslamap ...

Hi Martin, 62nF sounds as too high value for a resonant cap in the setup you present on the pictures. I think you should explain how you came to that value...
Also there is the common misunderstanding we run into once upon a time. The double resonant mode as is understood by some of the members of the forum involves also the primary feedback. For you apparently, the double resonant mode means only an extra resonant cap in a classical SSTC setup. Hard to say who is right

Heh, well, it is a solid state tesla coil with a capacitor to cancel the inductive reactance... Like a cross between the two. You will always be in tune with the secondary, but that can change around, making the 'resonant cap' be less than resonant...
Also, 62nf sounds about right. In fact, Steve Ward used 75nf for one of his small drsstc's.
wau i was never wonder about those complicated things you all are talking about, I just add a resonant cap to steve's design thats all, and it works great! I have just measured my cap it has 63,8nF. raff: everything for u want to know is here

Hah, that's funny. So does it have an oscillator or is it solely driven by feedback?

MMT very nice coil. it seems that antena feed back works well for your tesla. this scematic is one of the moast primitive circuits that Steve Ward made and can eat fets with out proper tuning. Did you have any problems building it? have you seen the other shematics that have feedback and interuptor sycronization. I think the reson that your circuit works so well is the fact that you have strong cupling maby .3. have you actualy mesured primary and secondary frequency seperatly.
