ok, thanks guys for the inputs. i think i will redo my schematic.

my schematic is heavily based on steve young Link2 and steve Conner Link2 the reason why i didnt use MOCs is because it has different values, each is unique but same voltages. 450v 22uF happened to be on hand so i used it. i forgot to put ground on center tap sorry, also the bleeders, it has to be 220k 1w across on each caps. the polarity of C2,C3 and C4 are backwards. Maybe i will try first the lytics. if it didnt survive, i will use my MOCs. i have a vacuum cleaner motor with dimmerswitch or a variac.

i have made a simple MSexcel calculator. inputs are bpsmax, Vin and Power. how can i upload this file?
will the capacitive reactance formula work with this schematic?

i think thats all for now. will be back soon.

Eniyuki -

I forgot to mention, I'd recommend that you use 3A diodes (like 1N5408) instead of 1A diodes (1N4007) for your de-Q-ing diode string.

The 1N4007's just seem to have a higher than expected failure rate in similar applications, where a string of 25 1N5408's will give plenty of margin and will only cost a little more than the 1A diodes.

Regards,
Herr Zapp

Looking at your original diagram, C1 is right, as D2's anode goes to the + terminal. C2, C3 and C4 need to be inverted. All the diodes are OK.
