HV transformer sc current measurements

Thank you all for the feedback, i really appreciate all your help.

Sulaiman: following you example i made similar calculations.
First i have measured the windings resistance using a multimeter - i obtained 6,2 ohms on primary side and 8,2 k on secondary
6,2 ohms * 46^2 = 13,1 kohm, added to 8,2k of secondary resistance we get 21,3k total.
10 500/21300 = 0,5A on the secondary, that gives 23A on the primary
Does this sound reasonable? I'm wondering how much can you trust a digital multimeter when measuring transformer windings?

Anyways this estimation greatly exceeds a 10A ammeter limit, so i guess it would cause a disaster once connecting such a meter in series with the primary and shorting the secondary.

Please correct me if i'm wrong:
Adding a mains lamp in series will develop full 230V drop on this ballast and in effect, no voltage on the primary of the trafo.
So then i can measure this sec. current and having the relation 0V @ I sec determine what this current would be under nominal primary voltage (without the ballast)?

The 230 V are over the series association of the lamp with the transformer primary coil. A small voltage will appear over the primary, since the same current passes trough both, lamp and primary coil. The lamp limits the current to a safe value, easy to measure.
