Where do some of you guys go for some cheap Magnet wire. I would like to find a local store in Oregon but I may have to find it online. I checked some of the obvious places like Ebay, But I need just a little bit over 5000' and the 12000' rolls are way to expensive. rolleyes

You didn't specify guage.
You can go to wire companies like MWS wire, and they will cut how much you ask for. I have gotten 2400' of 24AWG, and 200 feet of 18 AWG litz from them.
If that won't work, find a motor rewinding place. They might cut of a section for you.

Thanks RP, I updated the post with the correct gauge size needed. I also requested a quote for the the desired length.

I requested Plain Enamel coating which is what I want correct?

PE Description - Plain Enamel, known as oleoresinous enamel, is still in use today in a variety of electronic components. Plain Enamel wires are manufactured to single-build dimensional standards.

Uses - Relays and coils

Keep in mind the price of copper has skyrocketed in the past few years. Don't expect to get it for too "good" of a deal.

My goal is for 10-12 foot arcs @ 7200kW input. But since this will be my first "from scratch" designed build I am still figuring out all the parameters. I am thinking about takings Steve Ward's secondary and primary design from his drsstc-2. And power it using the cm600's.

I bought a fat roll of wire from Nebraska surplus sales once. Probably not the "best" place for price, but they have tons of other electrical products for sale as well. They have pretty good deals on some of the large value electrolytic caps.

How about Parawire? All of their magnet wire is double built though, or so i was told. It seems that you have a choice though, so email them.

By far, you are better off going with surplus wire from eBay and trying to find it by the pound for less than eleven dollars a pound, including shipping. I've always done that, and it always works for me. Then again, I am sitting on some rather large spools of wire.

Thanks guys!

I E-mailed one of the E-bay suppliers and he is fixing me up a custom length spool which is kinda cool.
