creative CM600 Uses

yes, a triac will stay on, it's just two back to back SCRs. But since you're using an IGBT, you can turn it off when ever smile If you want to use the IGBT to switch the current through an arc you may want to use a current limited power supply. There are many options for doing what you've outlined, but regardless, I expect the output light pulse to be relative slow due to the low voltage, high current, and small arc length. Dr. Edgerton used a very fast HV arc of the surface of glass for his high speed stuff and it is still the best way to go, but it doesn't make use of your CM600 paper weights wink

I would be using an Arc Welder with adjustable Current ratings, but mainly the arc is not for the fastest of the fast events but for the VERY high light output for exposing a larger area

as for the arc duration, are there any formulas I can use to calculate approximate duration? - I would want to control duration with the CM600s, but what factors will keep the arc going as you say it will?

I have decided to use the bricks for my Capacitor Bank (well, one brick with the other as a spare) - I decided that since I will be varying my bank voltage to as low as 50V, a triggered spark gap would not suffice and I would like to be able to control pulse durations using IGBTs, so here I am! - I would not use it for brute force pulses (for which I reserved the spark gap) but for powerful, controlled pulses such as, possibly, a multistage coilgun
