Alright, thanks for all the info! I have another question: Should I build my own RF ac line filter, or should I just buy one? I found a few on google for sale at approx. 25 dollars. If I should build one, are there any good websites that offer good info on making one? After 20 minutes of googling, I still couldn't find a good website with info on making one. I simply don't have the know how, to know exactly what I need for this project.
One last question (somewhat irrelevant, but) regarding the resistors, why did you suggest the Vishay metal film, rather than the cheaper Ohmite Carbon Composition. I was just wondering why the metal film is needed? I'm sure this is a dumb question for an experienced electric hobbyist, but I being a novice was curious! thanks.

Read the original recommendation more carefully -- it talks about the resistor's voltage rating. For multi-megohm resistors, the maximum voltage rating is often more restrictive than the power dissipation rating.

Jonathon -

You should be able to find a 5A or 10A AC line filter for $3-5 at any electronic surplus store. It's not worth the effort to try to build one unless you already happen to have the correct inductors on hand.

You never filled out any of your 4HV profile information, so I don't know where you are. If you are in the US, here is a listing of electronic surplus stores covering the entire US: Link2

Or, you can always shop eBay. Here's a 10A AC line filter on eBay for $0.99; item #350226794321.

As for the reason for recommending the Vishay VR-37resistors, please read (or re-read) my post of july 10, where I specifically describe the reasons for using the VR-37 resistors rather than conventional resistors (meaning carbon composition, carbon film, metal film, metal oxide, etc). It has nothing to do with the type of resistive element, it's the special design of the resistor for HV use.

If you don't read the responses to your questions, then it's not worth taking the time to post answers .....

Regards,
Herr zapp

Ok, everything is in the bag now. I'm finishing up with wiring. I got the resistors Herr Zapp, and my line filter and variac are taken care of. As for the terry filter, I decided it is too much extra money just for a precaution to protect my NST. It was free anyway, so if it does blow, I can get another very cheap. If it were more expensive, however, I would definately take your advice and get a terry filter.

I have one problem! I accidentally goofed on my primary. I started winding too far from the center, and ran out of tubing about 6 inches out. I only need another 7-8' to finish. I was thinking I could get another short piece and stretch the end just enough to allow it to fit snugly on the existing tubing. This would make a seamless transition b/tween the two. If there is a tiny bump where they connect, will it affect the coupling or anything else?

I'm interested in your answers, so please...Comment!
I'll post a picture of my almost completed tesla soon!
