Beleive it or not, most electronic equipment is not designed to withstand operation near to a sparking Tesla Coil!

Any decent equipment for sale in Europe or America will have been through some EMI compliance testing but the fields that stuff is tested to are nowhere near those that cause the air to spontaneously breakdown!

A decent faraday cage around the TC, and a good quality mains line filter (ideally fixed to the wall of the cage) will surely solve the problem. Or do what most people do, unplug the piece of equipment that is malfunctioning, or move the TC further away.

I have had similar things happen. Once i made the oven display (PF) which stands for power failure with a sgtc, and while my little brother was playing guitar hero and i was running a vttc it would do the whammy bar for him and while playing Halo3 it would make him look around and walk slowly.

EVERY TIME I run my Tesla coil, the RF interference (via radio waves) screws with the smoke detector that is adjacent to my parents' room's door. They don't appreciate it when I run it late at night in the workshop, outside.

I rarely get problems running a coil near electronic equipment, except two things: The wireless router goes insane always, and if the coil is near my computer, my keyboard's caps-lock light goes on and off randomly.

Cheers,
Jesse
