You're right they give a very good impression of the huge scale of the apparatus.
For my taste, the basketball net and step ladder are a little too prosaic: imagine if they had been a circle of bronze garden statues looking in, as of folk greeting the the sun - I imagine you could use tailors dummies sprayed with nickel screening compound, or even the good old aquadag - liquid graphite conductive paint.

Could you make yourself a faraday suit out of clothing that isn't conductive coated in conductive paint? That would look much nicer than aluminum foil. ;)
