I think I'll be making a small TC that is easily portable, as well, using either an OBIT rated 10KV 23mA, or, more likely, an NST rated 6KV 30mA, even if it is less power in the same footprint. I only need a pound or so of 32AWG wire to wind a small secondary...

For my enclosure, I'll use some of my dad's 1/4" clear (actually translucent blue) PVC. He did get it for me, after all. The stuff is fairly heavy, but including all the other parts, it's going to be pretty heavy as it is. I;ll get a plan laid out, today, and start making my capacitor (the 4HV wiki rolled caps).

By the way, that's a beautiful coil.

Notice anything about this photo?

Clearly not quenching because the static gap was set too narrow. Was OK at lower voltage with a variac but not on full mains as it heated up.
A quick pinch of the gap with pliers and it was back to 3 inch sparks.

Oh - and the girl with the red dress. sorry, don't know how she got in the pic....

Heh-heh

Very nice portable Tesla Coil, great design and where exactly did you get such a tiny NST, finding a decent NST in Europe is like finding water in the Atacama desert -.-. Nice long exposure shots also, very crisp (OT what camera do you shoot with?, I'm a Canon man myself)

BTW, the ladies of Australia seem quite interested in Tesla Coils!? Seems like a phenomenon that manifested itself only in Australia?

The little NST was being used as a doorstop at the Neon place. I bought it assuming it probably would be half blown but it was OK and they found another like it too. Always pays to have a spare in any project.
I am sure you have neon signs in Europe. Ergo: you must have people who install them. Speak to them.
Camera is Nikon D300.
Mostly the non technical public (including Australian ladies) will find a TC interesting for a short while. The possibility to interact with one and watch others interact with one (like the boyfriend) makes the difference. The ability to have a bit of fear induced, then to conquer it by have sparks onto your hand and a bit of a tingle, does give a buzz though. That feeling makes people come back with their friends. It's interesting psychology.
Pic shows ladies lining up to investigate the quenching problem.
